Since dying doesn't really hurt you, you're free to explore and have fun in the levels, and there are a ton of little secrets to find. This is a great title: family friendly, good for a wide range of age groups, and fun to just mess around with. This game was released on every damn platform known to humankind, but it's a little annoying that some versions are so much better than others. Go with the 360, PS2, GC, or Xbox ports and you'll be a happy Star Wars fan. The DS version is unfinished and terrible.

The PC version is also pretty, but a touch on the buggy side. I picked my copy up for the 360, just because I'm willing to pay a little more for eye candy, and it looks amazing: C3PO is shiny, it uses bloom lighting well, and has a great depth-of-field blur effect as well. The original trilogy had some great vehicles, and they all look nice rendered in Lego bricks. I was amused when the dewbacks dropped some brown from their backsides. You'll also enjoy the expanded vehicle sections, as well as ridable creatures.
It's even more important since this game has many puzzles that require switching between characters quickly, so having a second player at the controller instead of the somewhat dumb AI is nice. This game almost seems designed from the ground up to be a family title, and while that's not rare, the quality of the game and the co-op is. I love that feature, and this also lets kids help out without killing the game for you. The great co-op play is back too, another player can jump in at any time, and then leave just as easily. This makes the replay value is much higher than one might assume at first. You can go back and replay any mission you've beat in free play mode to pick up more Lego bricks with which you can buy golden blocks and characters, and there are parts of each level you can only access with certain characters. And yes, Han shoots first, blowing Greedo's body completely off. I had a blast just seeing the cut scenes retell the story without words-the little Lego guys are pretty expressive. You play through Episodes 4-6, ride all the vehicles, and see the sights from most of the big scenes of those movies.

Plus you can make a Lego man with a Tusken Raider head, Leia's gold bikini, and a purple light saber. This is the perfect game to play with your kids or your younger siblings because it straddles the line of children's games and more-advanced entertainment very gracefully. On the other hand, no matter how good you are, it's going to take you a little while to find all the secrets the game has to offer, and with so many unlockable models and characters, you'll want to see as much as you can.
You find Lego blocks everywhere, and every level has a few easy-to-find secrets, so this is a very child-friendly game with a lot of positive reinforcement. Like the first game, dying doesn't really hurt you, and you respawn at the same place. I'm hard pressed to think of anyone who won't be charmed by this title. This is a game for kids, their parents, and everyone who is a kid at heart, or maybe just everyone who likes Star Wars, or games. We finally got our wish with Lego Star Wars II, and they've considerably improved what was already a great concept.
It looked and played great, but of course all of us older geeks wanted the original movies-you know, the good ones-in Lego form. The first Lego Star Wars game came up with a great concept: retell the new Star Wars Trilogy in a lighthearted way using those famous blocks.
